Calvin an Hobbes

My kids love love love Calvin and Hobbes. Actually we all do. Bill Waterson is nothing short of genius. I wish he would come out of retirement but until then we will just enjoy what he has already given us. Here is one that I think any mom can appreciate...

New Blog Name is...drun roll: "Desperately Resisting Chocolate"

So desperately seeking chocolate was what I had in the poll but lets face it how hard is it to come by chocolate? Resisting is a little more difficult. The title may change, but for now this one spoke to me. It has nothing to do with those extra pounds I would like to dispose of before swim suit season!

Wouldn't it be nice if the 1915 styles of swimsuits were still in?

I never thought I would say...I'm SICK of snow!!!

So we wake up to three inches of snow this morning. I think God was very generous because he knew I could not handle another shoveling job and made it the kinds of snow that melts on hard surfaces. Another miracle in my life!

We hurry to get out to the car by a quarter to 11:00 so that we can get Bryce there on time for passing the sacrament. Also so that the Nazi on time sister in our ward would never have to point her fingers at me for being late. (I know I know I need to re-read my last post on bitterness)

We hop into my car and turn the ignition. Nothing!!! "ROSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I calmly screamed at the top of my lungs!!! He likes to turn on the dome light and forgets to turn it off! Yes this is not the first time and you would think I would learn to look and make sure it is off! Opps!

I say, "Everyone out! We are walking to church." Fortunately we live in Utah where most churches are close. However in the middle of a snow storm, with jackets too thin (my nice warm church coat is...guess? My other warm jacket is so ugly that I can not bare to wear it to church, vanity gets you every time) it seemed like 5 miles away instead of 5 blocks.

We half ran half walked to church. The whole time I was trying to 'encourage' Ross to keep up and get Bryce to run a head of us. Everyone driving by us smiling and waving thinking that the Wilson family sure LOVE to walk! Which we do just under different circumstances.

Halfway to church, Ross at this point walking next to me, right next to me. Guess what Ross finds? A puddle! Ross being 4, what do you think he did with that puddle? If you said walked around you either have not had children yet, it has been a LONG time since your children were 4, OR you had all pretty little calm girls (which is what I ordered but never got). He jumped with all his might and weight into the middle of the puddle sending all that lovely brown icy water right onto my white tights (I wore white thinking it was spring or something like that) and into my shoes.

JOY! JOY! JOY! I handled myself rather well I think, considering at that moment I wanted to kill the boy! I calmly informed him that I did not appreciate that experience and he was very sorry. Poor little Ross, he is a boy and really can not help it.

We walked into church with 1 or 2 minutes to spare. PHEW! Now all I need to figure out is, who is the lucky neighbor who gets to help me jump my car?

Rough Starts Great Finish

We love to listen to John Bytheway. This is the title of one of the latest CDs that we listened to. It is about those that had great challenges that they overcame and through their challenges became great!

A few people he talked of were Joseph Smith, Helen Keller, Colonel Sanders (not his actual name but I don't know if you would recognize his actual name). There are many more. Did you know that Elder Boyd K Packer had pollio as a child and is a sculpturer (is that a word)?

Who do you know that had great challenges and overcame them with greatness?

One of my life goals is that I never become bitter, no matter what life hands me. That I turn Lemons into Lemonade. That I love more, give more, and lose myself in the Lord's service. If I can do these things I think I may finish great, no matter if no one knows who I am.

Just a few reasons why I have spring/summer fever!

Sickies

Bryce and I have been ill for a few days and it has not been real fun. I get serious head aches and neck aches when I am ill. It seems that is the place my body gets attacked when ill. Where is your achey spots?

Today one of Bryce's friends, Tate, came to visit. It was so nice to have a visitor after being housebound for three days. I have never had someone visit me when ill. Even in the hospital after giving birth, I did not have visitors. When I am ill, I always tell people not to come by so that they will not get ill.
Tate insisted that he was fine to visit and that he would not get sick. We gladly let him in. What a renewal to our spirits he was. He was a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. I never realized what a visitor can do to your spirits when ill. It helped us not only feel emotionally better but also physically.
I always think I have to have flowers or food to bring to someone sick. Now I think I have been wrong, sometimes the best medicine/gift is just a visit from a friend. Stay and sit and talk, that might be the best gift/medicine for someone suffering.

Funny how a 12 year can be so wise.

Ross moments!

So Ross and I went to a funeral today. Isn't it interesting that the first three letters in funeral spells fun? Not quite how I would start the word but they did not ask me when they were creating words.

It was a nice funeral and I felt the veil was thin. I liked that. It made me a bit homesick for a home I can not remember.

Back to Ross. He was wearing his beloved Spiderman shirt that I am sure will be the exception to the rule that you can not take anything with you after this life. The ONLY way I was going to get that cuss to the funeral was by putting a sweater over it and promise that the moment we got into the car afterwards he could take off the sweater.

Fortunately, no one noticed and just for fun I showed dear Aunt Effie and cousin Susan. They both laughed as I knew they would and Susan shared her story of her son David having to wear his superman outfit under his church clothes just like Clark Kent/Superman. As soon as he came home he would tear off his church clothes and become Superman. Boys will be boys.

Ross and I headed to the back of the chapel for the services. Apparently Ross is not able to be in a chapel without pens and coloring pad fortunately I came prepared. Right a way he went to work coloring like a madman.

The funeral started with a beautiful a capella solo. Grandma Smart wanted it a capella so that everyone would hear the words to the hymn, "Oh My Father" (I LOVE that hymn too). During the beautiful hymn what does Ross do? Spill all his pens on the gym's wooden floor, not a quiet affair. Sorry Grandma Smart!!! Not sure what she thought at that moment but I hope it is LONG time before I find out.:)

New poll, please vote! Thanks!

Loser BLogger here!

I am sorry that I have been such a loser blogger these days. I am someone who needs variety in life and am not content in doing the same thing over and over. I quilt for a while and then I tire of that and move onto the next interest/hobby. I have always been this way. It makes me feel quite fickle but it is how I function.

I will try to be more motivated. It does not help that I am teaching RS this Sunday on top of everything else. I am alive and well if anyone is wondering.

Question!

So how is it that a four year old is completely incapable of getting dressed and/or making his bed on his own but can create amazing towers out of blocks, any possible shape imaginable out of play dough, draw pictures of all kinds, and fold up his blankie perfect so that he can take it on road trips?

You know you are in trouble when...

You know you are in trouble when your fourth grader brings home math homework that you can not help him figure out!!! I have an accounting major even. This is pathetic!

It is a cross word (math) puzzle. I can handle figuring out all the equations but where to put them on the puzzle is a mystery to me. Oh my!

Happy Birthday Babe!

Today is David's birthday. He is 37 years old. He is the kindest and best man I have ever met and wonder why I was ever so lucky to get to be married to him.

I love you and Happy birthday!

Daylight Savings Confession!

Yesterday was the spring a head Daylight Savings day. A day I dread. To lose an hour is near torture for me. It takes me a week or so to adjust. Needless to say I did not run today. Bummer!

It was a bit humorous to see how sparsely attended sacrament meeting was in comparison to Sunday School and RS. It reminded me of a few years ago when David and I forgot to switch our clocks. Fortunately it was in the fall, instead of missing sacrament meeting we were an hour early for church. Or I should say 50 minutes since we were running late as usual.

I remember being so mad that I missed out on my cherished extra hour of sleep though. Our church time was 8:00am at the time and that extra hour would have been a taste of paradise!

One of my passions!

Saturday night we had a fondue night at my cousin's house. Thank you Karen for sharing your home with us. I love fonduing! It is relaxing, yummy, and a wonderful way to interact. Food and good friends is the best combination.

We had two different cheese fondues which was a great way to determine favorites. I will post all the recipes on my Lets Talk Food site.

Then we got out our Raclette Grill, which is basically an indoor BBQ. We grilled marinade chicken, steak, and shrimp. We ate them with different sauces. I made a pesto cream cheese sauce and a balsamic vinegar and mustard sauce. I had good intentions to make a sweet onion sauce but ran out of time and energy.

Finally we had the grand finale of the chocolate fondues. UM UM good! I was ridiculous and made 4 different kinds. It was impossible to choose from so many so I narrowed it to the least possible. I made Almond joy, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chocolate mint, and my favorite Caramel Chocolate (which happen to be the easiest too)

If you come to visit me, I will do a fondue night for you, upon request. It is a blast and so delish! I think I love it for its European flair and reminds me of my one of many loves, ITALY!

Help needed!

Janel, my cousin, has inspired me to think bigger with my blog title. What I thought was such a clever name has become rather annoying.

So to copy Janel (they say it is the highest form of a compliment, I hope you feel complimented) I am listing possible name changes and will have a poll for you all to vote.

Please comment on why you have voted for one particular name. If you hate them all and think I should keep the name I have please state that as well. Or, give me a whole new name!

Thank you for this guidance, how would I make it in life without you all? We are all in this together, whether you like it or not!

Most of these ideas are from Janel. If you have not done so yet or recently you NEED to go and check out her blog. Be prepared for a good laugh. Her new title is hilarious (I still covet it) and I love lift. That is compliments from Mechelle (my sister, I have the coolest family).

Brown Bread Slices is the winner!

No contest! Brown Bread Slices wins by 77%!

So what this tells me is there are very few of you I will share my Gardetto's with! Ross calls them, "Mom's favorite." They know they can have all the pretzels and mini bread sticks they want. Eat the brown bread slices at your own risk!!!

Mr. Darcy is visiting!

I am not ill nor out of town. I have been reading, "Mr. Darcy's Diary." You will most likely not hear anything until I finish. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to read however my family suffers dearly to neglect and so I try not to indulge myself. Not because I don't adore reading but because I really have no self control. I love my family and so I accept these imperfections and only every once in a while allow myself a great book.

Renee, a friend from high school, mentioned in her Christmas Letter that her favorite book was, "Mr. Darcy's Diary." Being the Pride and Prejudice maniac that I am, I went directly to the library to check it out. They did not have it. I looked on the net library (which would be best, then I could listen while I was more constructive), once again failed.

Where there is a will there is a way. I said fine if I can not borrow this book I will BUY it. Can you believe that Nikki, I spent money:)!?! Fortunately I found it for $5 and bought it. It only just arrived and oh I am in love once again. After I finish reading it I want to read "Pride and Prejudice" simultaneously with "Mr Darcy's Diary."

My dream vacation for David and I, when we are empty nesters is for us to go somewhere in the middle of Idaho's beautiful mountains. There he will fly fish the entire time while I read and read and read. There are days that I just crave it so that the thought just keeps me going. My carrot.

I would LOVE any comments on must read books. Thanks Renee for this recommendation! My family will forgive once I am finished:).

BoM link to a cool blog

This blog may be an advertisement for their tours of Mexico. However, I wanted to see some pictures of possible Book Of Mormon sites. I like the pictures and it tells a little of how these sites relate to the Book Of Mormon. I added the link just in case anyone else is as curious as I am.
The Summer between my 7th and 8th grade year I had the chance to tour Mexico with our youth group. We saw many possible areas that various Book of Mormon events may have taken place, according to experts.
Although I remember the sites I have no idea where they were in Mexico. I hope someday to take my kids to these sites. This is just one of the many ways I cruse the internet! Better put, waste time:).
